Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Traditional Chinese MedicineChronic Fatigue Syndrome has befuddled Western Medicine for the past two decades. Finally, an article in the March 22 Wall Street Journal indicates that researchers are making progress developing a test which picks up the higher levels of proteins and other markers in most CFS patients. The Wall Street Journal article goes on to describe a program at New York’s Columbia University that seeks to identify specific pathogens that “may appear prominently in patients with the disorder.” Better testing may give comfort to the many individuals who suffer from memory loss, headaches, joint and or muscle pain and debilitating fatigue but may not, at first, usher in a new era of treatment options. Traditional Chinese Medicine has a long history of success in treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, in large measure by treating the immune system. With CFS it is not unusual to uncover a battle between the immune system and other pathogens, especially virus and yeast. In such cases the immune system may be over taxed. Support for the constitution in general and the immune system in particular often helps to restore the natural balance that once protected the individual and dramatically reduce the symptoms. More importantly, Traditional Chinese Medicine revitalizes and refocuses the immune system allowing it to deal with these every day pathogens in the normal course of events. |
